That’s my little boy – Asher James Mills – just minutes after coming into this world 10 weeks early. Man he gave us a scare. He gave LOTS of us a scare. I was happy, sad, optimistic, terrified, pissed, blessed and calm all at the same time. It was a bizarre feeling that I hope I never have to feel again. The first few weeks were pretty crazy, and you can read about much of it here, but today I focus on the now. I focus on how far my little guy has come and how much he has helped so many people grow – including me.

Sorry that I couldn’t calm you down and make you feel better.  I hate the fact that part of me wanted to toss you out the window.  You’re a baby…you have every right to cry like crazy whenever you want.  I’m your dad…I have no right to get upset when you are upset.  I hope you know that you are worth the occasional frustration I selfishly claim.  You’ve earned the right to a few bad days after your start in this world.  

P.S. Next time you want to cry like this, can you try to do it when your mother is home?
